AFR and Yates win Gold Lizzies




The Australian Financial Review and Darren Yates have taken home the Gold Lizzies at this year's Sun Microsystems IT Journalism Awards held last Thursday night at Star City Casino.


AFR took home Best Title after winning Best Business Technology Coverage and placing highly across the Best News, News Industry Coverage and even Best Personal Computing Coverage.


AFR journalists and contributors also fared well with Information editor Ben Woodhead winning back-to-back Best Technology Industry journalist awards while Mark Jones' The Scoop podcast won Best Audio Program. Stablemate MIS Australia won Best Business Magazine.


The Australian continued its domination of the News awards with Mahesh Sharma winning the Cass Warneminde Best News Journalist trophy and The Australian accumulating enough points to win Best News Title. News Limited stablemate News.com.au/technology took home the prize of Best Website.


Good Game won Best Video Production for the second year in a row, Australian 360 was given Best Gaming Coverage and Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw was Best Gaming Journalist.


Meanwhile, Darren Yates (PICTURED) was the winner of Best Reviewer and Best Technical Journalist, leading to his overall ranking as Best Journalist. This year's Gold Lizzie makes Yates the first multiple winner of the award.


CHOICE Computer also had a good night winning winning Best Consumer Magazine while journalist Rosalyn Page won Best Consumer Technology Journalist.


Simon Sharwood was a popular winner of Best Business Technology journalist, David Braue won another Best Columnist Award and Nett's Jonathon Crossfield was the winner of the Alicia Camphuisen Best New Journalist Award. PC Authority was the winner of Best Personal Computing coverage.


Meanwhile, Pru Quinlan was the winner of the inaugural David Hellaby Best PR Professional Award.
